"Nothing's As It Seems"

I died at twenty four. I came back mere days afterward. I don't know why. I'm not sure what my "purpose" is. But here I am, between life and death. I flit from one place to another without a care in the world. Or at least I did, until I found myself stuck one day in London, England.~~~ He was an ordinary guy. Early twenties. Dark hair. Brown eyes. Slender, girlish figure. He seemed to have ADD and was blatantly gay. I watched him for a couple days, intrigued. Then found when I attempted to leave him one day, I simply couldn't.

"You need something?" he asked suddenly. I looked around the library, knowing he couldn't possibly be talking to me.

"Are you lost?"

Except he most assuredly was. He stared right at me, not through me. I swallowed almost on instinct. I tried to "disappear" but felt a pressure holding me down. Oh bloody fuck.

"No...I'm...I'm fine,"I replied. He nodded and went back to his work. I had no idea what was going on. Why couldn't I leave?

I went to flee the library, confused and distraught, but I couldn't step past the front doors. For some reason beyond my comprehension, I was being forced to stay near him.

"Why are you doing this to me?" I groaned at the ceiling, tugging my hair.

"What's God done to you?" I jumped, startled, and there he was again, carrying a load of books.

"Erm..." I trailed off. What was I supposed to say, that I was dead and God was spiting me?

"Sure you're not lost? Cuz you look like a deer caught in headlights." I blinked a bit and ran a hand through my hair, giving him a sheepish smile.

He chuckled a bit and shuffled his books to his other arm.

"Need help finding something?" he asked softly. Yeah, my way to my eternal resting place. Got a guide? I bit back that response and chewed on my lip.

"Er...I..." Glancing at the books in his arms, I noticed they were about psychology.

"I was looking for something about Freud."

"Oh, I can help you with that. Right this way." And I followed him, not like I wouldn't have had to anyway.

When we got to the section, I found myself looking at him more than listening to what he was explaining. And that turned out to be a bad thing.

"So, you get it?" I stared at him blankly.

"Were you even listening?"

"I..was distracted..." I admitted.

He quirked a brow and then smirked at me. "Oh...that so...?"

I nodded a bit at him, not knowing when I'd become so bold. But his smirk widened into a grin and he looked at me appraisingly.

"The name's Caiden." He held out a hand and I wondered if I could even take it, or would I pass right through? Well, better to find out then look like I was blowing him off. So I reached out and grasped his hand, surprised a bit at the sudden soft warmth beneath my fingertips. I could touch him.

"And you are...?" he asked, brow raised.

"Phoenix." He licked the piercing in his lower lip and nodded.

"Nice..." I blinked. I had never heard that word sound so dirty.

"Did you really come here for a book, Phoenix?" I opened my mouth, then closed it. No, I hadn't. I'd come because of him and now I couldn't leave.

"No...I didn't." He laughed a little, looking up at me, brown eyes wide and playful, rimmed in kohl and long, dark lashes. I found myself swallowing again, hard, over a lump in my throat.

"Would you like to get out of here then?" he asked. I simply nodded and he walked off ahead of me. And was he purposely swaying his hips? It didn't matter if it was on purpose or on accident, my stomach clenched either way. I shook my head, once more staring up at the ceiling, and then made my way after him. He checked out his books and nodded for me to follow him outside.

"So...would you carry a bloke's books for him?"

He batted his lashes a little, small smirk in place. I took the books, amused by him at the same time as I was intrigued.

We walked down the street and he talked about this and that, making small talk. I listened intently and kept glancing at him from time to time. Then suddenly he stopped in front of a flat building.

"Would you like to come up?" I paused only momentarily before nodding. He smiled and unlocked the door, then led me up a flight of stairs to a nice flat that I couldn't help staring around at.

Phoenix (5:58:15 PM): 'Fucking Christ," *mutters and rubs my head*
Caiden (5:58:44 PM): -rubs eyes, the curtain falling back again- jesus fuck, Cai... -voice a bit raw-
Phoenix (6:05:37 PM): *grimaces and looks back over at the shower* 'I need to learn to shut my mouth'
Caiden (6:08:24 PM): 0-rubs at eyes, trying not to break down there-
Phoenix (6:11:21 PM): *shakes head and attempts another go at the door*
Caiden (6:11:53 PM): -shuts the water off, cold as i was when i got in, and steps out without warning-
Phoenix (6:12:20 PM): *bangs back off the door, right into you and freezes*
Caiden (6:13:14 PM): -feels extra cold and goosebumps rise up, cursing the heat in the building-

Phoenix (7:40:19 PM): *backs up as far from you as possible and chews at lip, looking up high and wondering to myself why i'm being tortured*
Caiden (7:41:02 PM): -finally reachs for a towel, wiping myself off-
Phoenix (7:41:26 PM): 'This can't be my job. Tell me this is not my job!' *pulls at hair, feeling lost*&
Caiden (7:42:21 PM): -ruffles hair and tugs on fresh boxers id dragged along, looking out the little dingy window-0
Phoenix (7:43:28 PM): *looks around, anywhere but at you and sighs* 'Why couldn't you be less gorgeous, so i wouldn't think of banging you?'
Caiden (7:45:30 PM): -rubs nose, sneezing a little and huffing a bit, walking through you without knowledge and opening the door-
Phoenix (7:46:08 PM): *shivers* Bollocks...I don't enjoy that...*grumbles*
Caiden (7:48:15 PM): [oo and maybe he can sense things like sickness before cai can. like colds or whatever] -tosses towel towards the rest of dirty clothes in my room and crawls up on the bed-
Phoenix (7:49:28 PM): (Hahaha ;)) *feels a pull in the middle of my chest and shuffles out of the bathroom* 'I'm in the same vicinity as him, why do I have to be right up on him?'
Caiden (7:50:11 PM): -its still lkight out, nearing 3:30 maybe, and i lay down on the bed with a blank look in my eyes-
Phoenix (7:51:05 PM): *lets out a string of obscenities low under my breath* 'give me a bloody break here, dammit. I can't help him...he doesn't need my help'
Caiden (7:52:59 PM): [hehehehhee watch this] -picks jeans up from over the side of my bed and pulls out something i'd taken from you. a wallet. flips it open and looks at it. theres nothing in it but a picture of a kid with his parents near a beach and i drop the wallet, holding the picture and looking at it-
Phoenix (7:53:59 PM): *narrows eyes* 'Bloody wanker took my wallet'
Caiden (7:54:36 PM): good one... -sighs and sets it down on the dresser- should of asked for a number instead of taking his wallet...-rubs hand over my face-

Phoenix (2:07:49 AM): *suddenly feels a tingle all the way up my spine and looks upward, seeing the same swirling mist i saw when i'd first arrived back down here* 'What now?' *it surrounds me and i'm flooded with images...thoughts...all yours*
Caiden (2:08:59 AM): -closes eyes and curls up with the bear, not planning on sleeping-
Phoenix (2:11:33 AM): *curls up in the chair, breathing a bit heavily* 'Fuck...poor bloke...'

Phoenix (2:27:19 AM): *cant move past the room, so goes and curls up on the chair again, thinking maybe i can sleep too*
Caiden (2:28:41 AM): -reese walks into the room about an hour later, asking me while i'm half awake about dinner- eat something in the cupboard, reesie... -he says theres just noodles, butter, and some coke- thats all we have, reese -quietly-
Phoenix (2:31:11 AM): *hears the voices and eyes flutter a bit, then looking from you to him, concentrates hard enough and thinks of money materializing in the wallet* 'look down, kid...look...down'
Caiden (2:32:38 AM): -he calls me a liar and points to bills sticking out of the wallet that was the guys- cant we just... get mcdonalds or something, Cai?" -looks over at it sleepily and mumbles something about i had to be really out of it...- oh... yeah... i forgot... i got an advance... -lies to you, chewing my cheek-

Caiden (2:45:30 AM): -he walks off and i hear the front door shut, feeling uneasy everytime he leaves-

Caiden (5:23:08 PM): -glances at the phone i'd gotten just a few days ago and bites lip-
Phoenix (5:23:54 PM): *grips at hair a bit and stares up at the ceiling, wishing a bit that i'd just gone to hell or something*

Phoenix (5:29:29 PM): *leans back, watching you with a saddened expression on my face* 'I know what it's like...to wish someone loved you like that...'

Phoenix (5:36:32 PM): *watches you and then loses interest, not gonna eavesdrop if i don't have to*

Phoenix (5:39:24 PM): *arches a brow, hearing a snippet and then shaking head and walking off a little over to some books on a shelf*

Caiden (7:20:56 PM): -has a lot of smart books eh. some really boring sounding. sitting on the edge of the couch, i looked out the long window and across the alleyway to a brick wall-
